Drug Overview
Tukol is a combination medication that acts as an expectorant, cough suppressant, and nasal decongestant. It contains three active ingredients: dextromethorphan HBr (which helps quiet coughs), guaifenesin (which helps loosen phlegm and thins bronchial secretions), and phenylephrine HCl (which clears nasal congestion).
This medication is designed to temporarily relieve symptoms associated with colds, such as nasal congestion and cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation. It is recommended for individuals aged 12 and older.
Uses
This medication can help you by loosening phlegm (mucus) and thinning bronchial secretions, making it easier to drain your bronchial tubes. If you're experiencing symptoms from a cold, such as nasal congestion or a cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation, this medication can provide temporary relief.
It's important to note that there are no reported teratogenic effects (which means it doesn't cause birth defects) associated with this medication.
Dosage and Administration
It's important to follow the correct dosage when using this medication. For adults and children aged 12 years and older, you should take 2 teaspoons every 4 hours. However, make sure not to exceed 6 doses in any 24-hour period to avoid potential side effects.
If you have children under 12 years of age, this product is not suitable for them, so please do not use it for that age group. Always ensure you are using the medication safely and as directed.
What to Avoid
It's important to use this product exactly as directed. Avoid taking more than the recommended amount, as doing so can lead to unwanted effects. While there are no specific contraindications or concerns about abuse, misuse, or dependence mentioned, always prioritize your safety by following the instructions carefully. If you have any questions or concerns about your use of this product, consider discussing them with a healthcare professional.

Before using this medication, talk to your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, or difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate. It's also important to avoid using this medication if you are currently taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or have taken one in the past two weeks. Always follow the recommended dosage and consult a healthcare professional if you are taking other oral nasal decongestants or stimulants.
Warnings and Precautions
You should not use this product if you are currently taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), which is a type of medication used for depression, certain psychiatric conditions, or Parkinson's disease. Before using this product, patients should inform their healthcare provider if they have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, or difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland. Coughs associated with excessive phlegm or chronic conditions such as smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema should also be discussed with a healthcare professional prior to use.
Furthermore, patients should consult a doctor or pharmacist if they are taking any other oral nasal decongestants or stimulants. It is crucial to adhere to the recommended dosage and not exceed the directed use of this product to minimize the risk of adverse reactions.
